Samenvatting | Begins with a biographical sketch of Wolfrum (1854-1919). Discusses the cultivation of music at Heidelberg U. and music festivals in the 19th c.: A. F. J. Thibaut's activities in the musical life of Heidelberg U., the academic music directors B. Kreutzer, L. Hetsch, H. A. Winkelmaier, et al., the swift introduction of a 'Heidelberg Bach tradition', the Niederrheinische Musikfeste (begun in 1817), the Mittelrheinische Musikfeste (begun in 1856), and the Tonkünstlerfeste (begun in 1859). These festivals were the models for the Heidelberg Musikfeste (1901, 1903, 1910, 1911, and 1913) initiated by Wolfrum (collaborators included R. Strauss, Max von Schillings, Max Reger, Felix Mottl) and dedicated to the music of Bach, Liszt, and Reger. Wolfrum's editions of two Bach cantatas (BWV 56 and ... (Lees verder)BWV 198) are examined. Wolfrum's criteria of arrangement-'instrumentation', 'the disposition of sound groups', 'strong harmonic and linear distinctions', 'realistic and associative moment', etc.-show a multidimensional, subjective concern with Bach. |
