He started his career around 1856 and founded his own company in 1864: Edizioni Brogi Firenze. He specialized in portraiture and later in photographs of works of art, in particular in the reproduction of sculpture and in panoramas. Although the main photographic atelier of the firm was established in Venice, the Brodi Company had a prominent shop in Rome at the Via del Corso number 419. It was located close to the Spanish Stairs and the Piazza del Popolo, right in the middle of the touristic city center. That is where they sold souvenir albums like these in various sizes and prices. The firm kept on selling souvenir albums after the death of their founder in 1881. This luxurious ‘Grand Horizon’ edition in vellum binding was curated for high-end 19th-century European travelers visiting Rome. |
