In 1939 the full potential of the sub-machine gun had yet to be realised by many nations but Germany had already the MP38 which was soon countered by the crude Sten Guns and the American M3 'Grease Gun'. Also in this Fact File are the notorious Thompson guns and the numerous Russian sub-machine guns.
